Story - Some little insignificant kids were getting all butt hurt about my name and crying about how it's 'racist' no ones reported it until the recent week of which lots of 'drama' has been made. I feel as though the ban on the name was an over reaction as my name wasn't being used in any situation to intentionally offend anyone, if it was "I hate Small Spooks" I'd understand but that was not the intention it was a harmless roleplaying name, which is well known and changing it now would confuse many members including staff among the zarp community. Spook wasn't originally a racist term, it's been a more modern racist term, so if Morgan becomes offensive to Asians or Chute is that going to have to change? I clearly did not mean it to be offensive as my avatar for the forums is a ghost which is .......... Spooky. I feel as though you have ruined my roleplaying name.

Like I've said before I've told you I thought your name was racist and I even mentioned it to other LT members at one point but no one seemed to care about it and just let it slide. When it comes to names like these if we're going to punish people for loopholing racism in others ways I believe we should also crack down on the names too.

Everyone knows damn well that you had no intention to offend anyone with the name, and looking at it from an "international perspective" is misused here as Morgan was still looking at it from an American standpoint.

International aka across the globe means you have to take every country into account.
For example, within the Netherlands, the word "spook" means ghost, what if he was using it in a Dutch way? Could you really punish him for it because the name means something else in a different place? Of course not.

I find this entire name-change stuff complete and utter bullshit and I think it should be reverted ASAP.

We need to take this from a logical point of view and understand that we actually need to draw a thick line in the sand about people's sensitivity.

It is the way we speak towards some one that makes something racist. For example, the other day I was called a "-snip-". It's absolutely not racist for me to reference that, but however, it IS racist to purposely call some one such language in order to hurt them.

What I'm saying is, the name "Small Spook" Is not racist on its' own.

Please allow him to change his name back.

He just wanted to spook a couple of grizzly bears. But not too much so it was a small spook.

The word has deep racial meaning in America, I never punished you because that would be unfair. All I asked is that it was changed, a lot of players have been wondering why this was even allowed in the Community until recently when Tyler brought it to my attention. Also to those who are confused, saying you got spooked means you got scared - that's using it as a verb, you're going to scare someone, etc. However, this was not what was his name was. The word was used as a noun, and in a lot of places in the world it's known as a racist term up there with the same meaning as the n-word.

I'm sure there are plenty of names which have racist or offensive meanings in smaller countries like Zimbabwe or Luxembourg but regardless NA is not only one of the highest population countries in the world but it holds a large amount of ZARP's playerbase, as a result if enough people have a problem with the name's meaning then I'd say it's only fair to ask him to change it, not because of its meaning in any particular country but because of the amount of players who have a problem with it and have a real reason for it.
