Even if they didn't intend for the word to be harmless, which you can see I said in my reply to the original report, words still have meaning. We don't allow songs with the n-word no matter what context, so why would we stop with names too? They're offensive regardless how the original name came to be.

Words have meaning depending on country and culture, if I say spook in France they would know fuck all about what it means. Isn't ZARP an international community?

Cultural difference, spook is used in a very different way here and some other places I'm sure. Scare is scare if you're going to use spook in that sense it would be spooked/spooky not just spook, if you're referring to ghost it's just ghost. Some of you have been saying you didn't know it was a racist term until now and I never even knew spook meant ghost in another country either.

How I initial saw it was just the way it was used in or the structure it was used in. I do agree stuff like this needs to be clarified and revised to avoid these kinds of things though.

Are you not getting my point of how pathetic some of this has gotten morgan.

People are getting punished for names, that has a Racial meaning behind it, that is primarily from 1 singular place, or not heard of in others.
And on top of that, SO many words have racial slurs behind them, PicNic being the best example, as it's original and first meaning was a racial slur.

If you want to "Clamp down" on racial names, then Hundreds if not thousands of words will not be allowed, that are used everyday to describe food, or names of foods, or FFS sometimes even someones actual name

It's very clear to most sensible people that there is nothing wrong with the name.

This was evidently pointed out by someone who took no offence to the word being used, and was looking out for "rulebreaks" because of personal feuds with the player or general attempts to further their "reputation" by pointing this out.

You can argue all you want with your pedantic and illogical reasonings, but there is nothing wrong with the word spook at all. However due to the broken administrative system and the way disputes are handled I fear that common sense will not prevail in this situation and instead erroneous censorship will come out on top.

I'm pretty dumbfounded by that one exrobite, from a guy who isn't active in the Community you're surely making a few assumptions there. The motivation for accepting the report was stated in my reply, players have been complaining about this, it was brought to my attention by Tyler, I saw the report and felt something needed to be done about it.

In Dutch "Spook" means ghost, so if I start talking in Dutch and casually mention a ghost movie I'm suddenly racist???? Also, "Spook" is sometimes also an actual name people have. I'm just worried on how far this will go. Is the name "Dramn" going to be disallowed, because it's close to "Damn" which some people see as a curse? What about people with the word "Crispy" in their name? I'm just pretty worried at this point.. We don't have to let 'sensitivity' control us here.
