The use of "gay" as an insult or as a negative thing is incredibly harmful, likely more so than you realise. It's something which because it's so commonly said, pushes a lot of LGBT+ youth into being forced into the closet, to harbour animosity towards themselves and can cause a great deal of internal conflict in a lot of people. I don't think that, unless you have experienced this yourself, you really have the right to make a judgement on such a thing, and I can tell you from my personal experience, it does affect people.
So no, this is not a "snowflake warn" and is in line with the
discrimination policy. Dutch did the correct thing here.
So then you should be punished for every single time you thought you were funny by calling your friends gay? It's a two way street my friend, don't try to take a morality stance when you do the exact same fucking thing.
I'm literally bisexual so.. yeah (to clarify this obviously doesn't mean I can be homophobic, but what I mean by this is that this IS something that affects me personally, so I think I'm in a position to have a pretty valid opinion on the subject).
To those on this thread saying that people need to "not get offended by something that isn't targeted at them", I think you need to be taking similar advice yourself - do not try to deny the effects that things you say and do can have at people even that it isn't directly targeted at, and don't tell people they can't be offended by something which takes an aspect of their personality, a very key part of their own lives and who they are, and turns it into something that's "bad" or a "joke".
Sure, the world is a can be an awful place and things like discrimination do happen, but that doesn't mean that people need any kind of "wake up call" at all - it does NOT in any way mean we allow it in ZARP. We do not tolerate it and that is not something that is going to change.
I would encourage any staff members who disagree or who do not believe they would be punishing (either with verbal warns or mutes) to reach out to me on Discord or Teamspeak to explain their reasoning behind this, and to take another read over the discrimination policy as linked in my initial reply.
Don't have discord available on mobile so I'll just say my opinion here i suppose
As staff members we're told that our job is to keep players having fun and to make sure no-one is ruining their fun for them. If someone is screaming into their mic or calling people the f slur then that's interfering with them having a good time and its ruining their experience that they're supposed to be enjoying. At the same time we're encouraged to give verbal warnings for clean rapsheets etc. and to not go full in just gagging everyone who calls someone else a cunt because then you're ruining someone else's fun (if it isn't malicious obvs). If someone is being a cunt to someone else it's better to tell them to stop in case they don't realise any harm they're doing or they just let something slip which they regret.
If you're instantly muting someone for saying "that's so gay" and telling them their next offence will be AN EIGHT WEEK BAN that's just fucking nonsense I'm sorry. Obviously behaviour like that isn't tolerated but that's a light offence and its been treated like a full f slur or telling someone to kill themself. It wasn't even aimed at anyone? It was a statement and it could have been resolved with a "hey, watch your language in the chat yeah because that kind of stuff isn't tolerated here and next time you'll be muted". I really doubt anyone is disputing whether it's a nice thing to say but it's just a shitty move to instantly punish someone for that.
Also excusing anything you've said because you're bisexual is cool and all but isn't it a thing that gay people can't say the f slur which they've reclaimed (maybe not the correct term I don't remember) and black people can't say the n word so why are you supposed to just be allowed to go against the discrimination policy you just mentioned yourself when I guarantee any other bi or gay people wouldn't
