[Serious] Clarity on why JMT wasn't fully demoted? 3 years 4 months ago #1351812

Hi SSRP LT,

I'm requesting some reasoning behind the decision behind JMT's demotion to moderator and some reasoning to why it was not a full demotion. As has been said many a time, Zarp has a zero tolerance racism policy and racism usually involves serious punishment even in the first offense case. JMT however clearly has history and hasn't changed his attitude. People have discussed the chances he's had in his appeal so I have no understanding as to why he's not been fully demoted?
As Sally put in his appeal:
You shouldn't of really been demoted to Moderator, these sort of demotions are for misuse of commands. Count yourself lucky and take the punishment as it is deserved, yes things get heated but if you can't control yourself in those moments who knows what else you'll end up saying. Work on yourself to help compose yourself better in situations that may induce stress.
So why has he been only demoted to moderator? There must be something more to this. I know in a similar situation on bhop or surf I would expect the other LT to also want this kind of user off the staff team.
I have posted this here rather than in private messages as I believe the community deserves clarity on this.

Cheers,
Euan

Well if we're using that logic, how is removing the rank of someone on a gmod server going to stop them from being racist? It's the fact that this was the punishment voted on during the Lead Team Meeting for his actions. Sure it's about resolving the issue partly, but that's something JMT has to figure out on his own. We can't make JMT stop being racist on zarp, but what the punishment is doing is showing him that he is wrong for what he did. The demotion is the reprocussion for his racist actions.

[Serious] Clarity on why JMT wasn't fully demoted? 3 years 4 months ago #1351820

Hi euan,

I've already explained this in DMs but I just wanted to include my message here so that the wider community can understand the thought process behind the demotion to moderator a little more:

I personally voted for a demotion to moderator given that I felt an official warning wasn’t enough however that he should be given some degree of leniency based on the fact that, without being approached about it, he went and apologised and clearly felt incredibly bad about what he’d done, and has done a very good job ad a staff member. I was between a full demotion and a demotion to moderator but given his time as a staff member recently and the fact that he did clearly show a lot of remorse, a demotion to moderator was a fair punishment.

If anyone else has any questions or concerns regarding the decision, feel free to contact any member of the SSRP Lead Team or the Community Team and we will be more than happy to explain!

Hi,

I personally voted for a Full - Demotion, I thought that giving him a official warning was to soft. In my opinion after making such a mistake, in my eyes it would be unfair to not punish / slightly punish a staff member for saying the same word than a user who says it and gets heavily punished. But what Xnator already explained, he instantly apologised and felt bad about what he has done.

Personally I've experienced JMT apart from his annoying-childish behaviour towards Martin, did a great job as Administrator. He is a idiot but always shown dedication and effort in his work.

It doesn't matter what his position is, a staff member that represents the community was racist. Anything else than a full demotion looks like we don't fully disavow his conduct.

Something you are proud of? It is not funny that someone got justice for what he has done.
You've made mistakes yourself aswell. I shouldn't be laughing at the fact just because he got earlier 'demoted' than you that you will get support. Something you should not be proud of due to the seriousness of the demote

I don't appreciate you making fun of something that shouldn't be taken lightly, there is a reason why you got denied for admin last week and your attitude towards staff making mistakes is appalling.
Goes from saying the N word to chastising other staff about their behaviour within a few days, JMT truly is built differently

I know your statements, and I know JMT did something very wrong, but there is no need to further escalate the situation like this.

Making a forum topic about this was frivolous imo, euan. You could’ve messaged SSRP LT through discord, but nope you had to make a forum topic. All this is doing is making JMT feel worse about himself and bringing no further investigation to the already handled situation.

Maybe I’m wrong, but you should’ve just private messaged the LT on discord.
