So you're interested in applying for one of the six ZARP servers and don't know how to make a good application? Don't worry! There is now this guide that should help you on your way to making the
BEST application you possibly can!
Server Applications Guide
Here are some handy tips for how to make a great application. In this guide I'll be going through the following points:
- Make it seem appealing
- Have it be grammatically correct
- Giving it your own personal touch
- Some extra information (handy links!)
- Good luck!
Make it look presentable!
Making your application look presentable is one of the key things that really make a difference when people look over your application. Make sure that you use colors, but not
too many colors. Sometimes you'll see applications that are so bright with so many different colors that you can no longer read the actual words that are said.
Also be sure to make the
questions seperate from the
answers. What I mean by this is that it happens too often that a question and its answer are exactly the same, meaning that you can't easily tell them apart.
There are multiple ways to make your application presentable
and informative and the best way to do this is by looking at good applications by other people. I have examples of such applications down below, so be sure to check those out!
Spelling and grammar are important too!
Although this might seem like an obvious one, making sure that your application is grammarly correct is
extremely important. Having bad grammar and spelling in your application shows that you might not be able to converse with users, which is the entire point of staff: to deal with user problems. Although you don't need perfect spelling or grammar, having at least a readable application shows dedication and makes people think you'll do a good job.
A good site for grammar checking is this:
www.grammarly.com/ - feel free to use this on your application.
Show something of yourself!
In the end this is probably the most important one: show yourself. Don't do what you've seen others do and don't make your application what you think people want to read. Add originality, add something with which you show
you. Make sure that you don't abandon the template, but don't be afraid to add your own flair to it with fancy colours or talking about what makes you... well, you!
Extra information!
You need to follow the template at all times. Here are all links:
Remember that you should always follow the template. Not following the correct template for the server you are applying for means you will definitely not get accepted. Also keep in mind that the Forums and Teamspeak applications are usually closed and can only open for one week after the meetings, if at all.
Be sure to check out this
guide on how to use this forum's bbcode, it helps a lot!
Good luck!
I can only wish you the best of luck! Although an application is extremely important - after all, it is how you present yourself to the staff team - it is not the most important part. Attitude, activity and recent punishments are all weighed higher than an application, and it has happened that people got accepted for staff with an application that could be considered "bad" by any user's standards.
Good luck on joining the staff team! We always appreciate any and all applications, as they show your dedication to the Zarpgaming Community!
Note: I'll post examples of good applications tommorow, sorry.
