TOPIC: Learning LUA -- Challenges?

I was wondering if there was anything I could do to challenge my currently empty knowledge in LUA, I started learning it like an hour ago and I have no idea what I am doing but I get the gyst of it.

Is there any simple challenges I could do such as setting the color of entities on a map or anything else?

Create a entity that charges your health and armor up, not sure if that's too challenging for you but it's something to practice anyways

Something that could be easy to do is to make a counter for how often you jump.

You could try doing that.

Thought I would start more basic, where there aren't so many teams (jobs) and no money involved. A basic HUD that would fit better on pointshop servers.

The biggest challenge is the lack of resources. If you don't understand fully what the official Gmod wiki means you'll have to spend a long time finding things out which can tangle your patience.

When it comes to projects it doesn't really matter, if you pick a hard thing to do it'll take longer but you'll eventually get through it as long as you stay determined.

If you're like me and learn better by watching/listening instead of reading i'd suggest watching code blue on youtube to at least help you get started but eventually you'll have to suck up the things on the wiki.

the first thing i made in lua was a bomb that goes off; it included some networking, loops, entity creation, removal, defusing, planting, spamming the chat, an AWESOME GUI and some other things. Took me about 12-16 hours over a few days to write cause i had to learn almost everything i did but when I was done i knew a lot more. Hope it inspired you to some extent that it doesn't matter what you do- As long as you do it with passion.

I was able to write both a basic health and armour recharger that inherited from a base entity but implement their own functions and properties. I plan to keep working on this so it's a lot better logic wise and aesthetically appealing.
