- Staff, ok little rant time, staff for the least 2 years have been very obnoxious, not all of them though of course. Mods are pretty much excluded from this and most admins but lead team whether that’s SA, HA or higher are very much a part of it. For some reason unknown to me, staff can be incredibly rude sometimes, whether that’s just in them way they speak to you or the fact that they will sometimes do everything in their power to get away from work/helping people. I’ve been ignored numerous times by staff, with staff occasionally pretending to be AFK or quickly no clipping into a wall to get away. I know how you lot feel about being called out but offenders of this include Doombringer, Clarky, Tyler, OnionRings, Morgan, Redpowder and Jack Bushross (I think his name was, never met someone so petty, hypocritical, biased and ignorant on the server, both to me and other players) there are more of course but these guys are very fresh in my memory. People to commend are Chute, EMP, DEADMONSTOR, Coutinroy, Nafe, ZippyJack, Patrick (both the map editor and the ex-CM who I know was inactive but he was still helpful), Jordan (I think his name was) and even bloody Angelus, yeah Angelus the corrupt SA from years ago, even he was happy to help when approached even when he’s spawning in swords and running around killing players. Don’t know exactly how to put it into words but you can see what I’m getting at, big attitude change in the staff team please.
As much as I despise staff being rude to people and would do everything in my power to abolish it, it's just not possible by one person in the lead team alone. This is really something that winds me up: people yell - for lack of a better generalised term - corruption but never actually direct us to the specific incident that amounted to it.
We can't always be around 24/7 to catch staff who are abusive and it's often very difficult to do so as a higher ranking member of staff because they are almost always aware of your presence; they're less likely to slip up. This is why players, such as yourself, should also do their due diligence and
report abusive staff members be it in private or in a demote request.
Some people would retort (and I'm paraphrasing here): "you can't report X, Y and Z because they're friends with A, B and C!"
The best possible 'solution' - I'm using solution lightly here because it might not actually solve your problem - is to go even higher than you were originally intending to. Got a problem with a Super Admin but don't want to go to a Head Admin for fear of favouritism? Go to a CM or even a CO if they can spare the time to help.
I'll close my response by referring to my opening statement: I hate staff mistreating players and am more than prepared to work with anyone with concerns to try and resolve their issue(s). You can approach me directly with any issues relating to moderators/admins on SSRP as I have the ability to deal with such problems however, feel free to also consult me for issues on similar/higher ranking staff for a second opinion.
- Ethos, I don’t know if you still call it that or if it’s slightly changed but this is what I have to say. Hacking should be a perm ban for first offence, they can appeal of course but they shouldn’t have a second chance, that’s ridiculous. There needs to be harsher punishments on thing spike homophobia and racism, yeah people joke about, it’s the internet, but that doesn’t make it fine. I’ve seen people given a verbal, a warning and then finally a mute for homophobic comments, why not just mute straight away. I’m not saying staff need to be harsher on everything, they need to be more lenient in fact. I really appreciate staff who give verbals first for things like NLR, but after all these years, you will still see people being warned or jailed for pushing a car out of a ditch or if it’s stuck between 2 bollards, it hurts no one and doesn’t grant an unfair advantage, yeah prop push isn’t allowed but it’s just petty to punish for that.
I don't fully understand your criticism of the hacking policy. You believe that staff should be more lenient rather than jumping straight to punishments but want people who hack to be banned upon first detection? Is there something I'm not getting here?
The reason why people are given a chance to disable their cheats is the same reason why people are given verbal warnings for any other rule: they can change up their act, all you need to do is communicate. It's specifically a point I do my best to mention when training new staff (sometimes I do forget, I will admit) as I think most people would agree, having a staff member say: "hey, cut that shit out", rather than being picked up, frozen and warned for something that wasn't necessarily that serious and you weren't intending to ruin people's gameplay with it.
I did read your whole post, but these were just a couple of points I wanted to open a dialog about.
