It's literally the only way bitcoins are put into circulation, it's the only reason they exist. Bitcoin mining takes a lot of time and money, and each block you mine will get split between hundreds of people, so you usually only end up getting a fraction of a bitcoin.

Bitcoin mining is done by groups of people working out equations (hashes) to 'discover' a block of 25 bitcoins, this is usually split between thousands of people in what's called a pool, based on the percentage of the equation you worked out. For a lot of people this doesn't even generate revenue due to electricity costs and not investing like 500$ into a powerful asic miner

Don't ask me why I did this I was just bored af and felt like writing something
