Seems like the simple solution would be to stop stressing so much over the little things, but you have a responsibility as well.

I was LT, I had moments where I chose to enforce the rules to the T and others where I would let it slide. We all have some level of digression in which to act yet it looks like from what you said both sides decided to take the one a bit too far.

If you don't like the rules, press for change, but don't blatantly ignore them when addressed by others. If you are going to continue, you need to be ready to handle it. Clearly you weren't.
