The whole server timed out? Kinda seems related to the server. UNLESS everyone timed out at the exact same time while in different places of the world with only 1 correlation between them all, the server.

No thats is a known steam problem or Garry's Mod problem they fail your steam auth and you lose connection. We cant acount for this and is up to the game developers to fix.
