TOPIC: Auto Restart [Improve Performance/Ping

Auto Restart [Improve Performance/Ping 8 years 6 months ago #487586

Server Name: ALL

Suggestion Title: Auto restart all the servers

How would it benefit the server: Fix jittery movement after a long server uptime, less packetloss, better all around performance, fixing guns such as the m249 firing as stupid high rates due to curtime issues

Potential Issues/Exploits: Putting festive etc printers down for like 10m and having the server auto refund them on restart

I'm pretty sure this an issue with Source. Maps need to be reset every once in a while or the physics get weird. A map change/restart will usually fix it.

It doesn't as far as I can tell...
I have been afking for like 3 days straight and when you walk around you can tell the server needs to be restarted because of the chunkiness when walking around or jumping. This issue isn't as prevalent on 1 or 3 because they are crashed sometimes thus restarting them. Look at 2 because its often very chunky to walk around

"This is internally defined as a float, and as such it will be affected by precision loss if your server uptime is more than 6 hours, which will cause jittery movement of players and props and inaccuracy of timers, it is highly encouraged to refresh or change the map when that happens (a server restart is not necessary)."

Ever used the dragonuv after 10 days of no server restart? the accuracy is so fucked up the bullets go behind you.

This seems exaggerated at first, but I have honestly shot someone in the head with a svu 4 times blood splattering and all, and it registers no damage...

It's no exagguration, me and my friend were testing weapons so we can know whats best for what situations, what happened is that he fired off the SVU, pretty normal but his second shot hit me.. I was standing behind him...

The thing is, we were in a garage with noone nearby, the door locked and keypads engaged.

EMP tends to reset Server 3 after an uptime of 3 days or more, for the other servers I am not aware they are restarted as much as this.

There's already an auto restart on SSRP, apparently it's been a feature for years but I've only ever seen it once :P

Head Admins can set a time until the server gets a restart on SSRP, it is a automatic process once the command is executed. Normally, it's just a map change which fixes majority of the issues that can occur, such as lag, missing world props etc. A full server restart would have to be done by an Owner which isn't needed much, I believe.

If a server is appearing to be laggy, make sure it's not on any of your ends and just contact a lead team member such as myself and I will do my best to investigate whenever these issues happen.

There is not much to "investigate", its a proven fact that SRCDS needs to be restarted once a day to keep accurate server side curtime which is essential for many lua scripts and game functions. A restart isnt technically needed as changing a map will also reset curtime and fix many server issues

It takes far more than six hours for precision loss to start having a noticeable and visual impact on the servers. Sometimes it actually stays up for several days without any noticeable issues at all and if we notice jitter the map can simply be reloaded. We'd rather have someone reload the map when it's needed instead of risking people losing their valuable items and printers or stopping people from long basing for longer spans of time.

It's better done by a human to trigger a server reload than it being done automatically, it's just not needed from what I can see. Also six hours of the server being online is no issue whatsoever but around a few days, that's when it becomes noticeable and needed.

It doesn't need restarting once a day. It takes usaly at leat 4 days for this to occur on the SSRP servers. We are well aware of the CurTime() jitter and have been for a long time the problem with adding a timed restart is that there are always people on the server and there is no good time to restart the server. Whereas on the pointshop servers a restart often won't ruin people's gameplay.

I have an idea, why not add a thing in the ZARP menu like in the actions area that tells you how long untill a server restart, that way when people come into the server they can check at any time how long until a reset occurs.

For example, Jim enters the server and thinks about placing a festive down, but he checks the time 1 and a half hours till reset, he waits.

The only thing this will negatively effect is AFK mining.
