[FORUM] Flood protection on post edits. 8 years 7 months ago #197641

Server Name: The Forum (www.zarpgaming.com)

Suggestion Title: Flood protection on post edits.

How would it benefit the server: When you try to edit a post right after making it, it says how you need to wait 30 seconds before editing it for flood protection. Of course, I get flood protection when one submits a new post, but when you edit it? Personally, I don't get why you need to wait 30 seconds for "Flood Protection" when editing a post, as I don't see how editing a post is flooding the forums. Since I make a lot of typos and realising them right when I make the post, I normally have to wait 30 seconds before editing, which is kinda annoying.

If the flood protection was removed, it would be way less annoying than waiting 30 seconds to edit a post.

Potential Issues/Exploits: None that I can think of.

Ah, I thought someone would say this.

While I get that 30 seconds isn't much...

You have to agree, it is quite an inconvenience, as I have to press "Submit" after editing a post 7-8 times before it finally submits.

Besides, you can't really flood a forum by editing a post, so why is flood protection even there?

Because I can't be bothered to read a gigantic block of text again.

Or I am in a hurry.

Besides, no one really thinks of reading their posts again until they submit it, even you probably never read it just like the rest of us.

Again, why is flood protection even on for post edits? Editing posts don't flood forums...

There are times I couldn't edit a post early enough before the topic locks, and it's because of this... Oh, the humiliation...

No need to over-exaggerate

1: I never said it's insanely bad or that it ruins my day, I just said it's annoying, which it is.

2: Flood protection shouldn't be on edits, editing a post doesn't flood a forum.

Besides, it's better to have less annoying things on your forum / servers as possible, right?

These 30 seconds are there to stop you from spamming the edit button.
Theres nothing wrong about it, simply check your text before pressing the enter button.

It could be easily abused If the flood protection would be removed.
People could troll alot easier.

Again, I saw someone would come and say something like this.

I get that the 30 seconds are there to stop people from spamming the edit button. But I don't get how people can abuse and troll by changing their posts. And checking my text, I agree is a good thing I should do, but almost everyone can't be bothered to read their text again, especially a giant block of text.

And I do not get why people think using the edit button is spamming and is "Flooding" - hence why it is called "Flood Protection".

Please go a bit more in depth about how people can troll and abuse the edit button.

EDIT: From what I got, this is how you think people can troll and abuse:

Again, people can just screencap or quote the thing.

Or even better yet (But will take a lot of time), just make a feature with forum mods that allows them to see how a post looked like before it was edited.

Both methods work fine though.

EDIT 2: Or maybe just reduce the flood protection time for edits from 30 seconds to 5 or 10 seconds.

Close enough, it's around a 4 second difference. Besides, you probably couldn't concentrate counting because the video was funny.
