[SSRP] Nuclear Launch After Disconnection 4 years 5 months ago #1213783

Server Name: SSRP

Suggestion Title: Have Nuclear Launches stay after disconnection but have the timer pause.

How would it benefit the server:

Player's Hardware
Something I have seen many times is a player crashing while they are launching their nuke, which leaves the people raiding confused as the nuke timer disappears. It is unfortunate when this happens, however there is not really a way to prevent it. I think people should stop being punished for crashing and instead the nuke should stay. According to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey taken in March of 2020, the average processor has 4 cores (52%) or 2 cores (21%). This shows that the average hardware is clearly prone to crashing.

Player Entertainment
People are usually nuking to either make money or have fun, and if it is to make money, they usually want to have fun while doing it. If you lose money due to something completely out of your control, it gets frustrating especially when you lose the nuke which stops people from raiding it. I think to keep players happy, when the person who is nuking crashes, the timer should be paused until the player comes back, or until the original time would have ran out. This can keep people raiding and defending which helps keep action on the server.

[Work In Progress]

Potential Issues/Exploits: People somehow starting 2 nukes or peoples nukes still disappearing

I know that he's referring to but it doesn't show that "the average hardware is clearly prone to crashing" as he claims. Besides the fact that he completely ignores Mac and Linux users, he also ignores some other very important factors. The number of cores alone really doesn't say much about the overall performance of the system.

Because Windows is the best OS for playing Source games in general, the engine is unstable on other OS’

Hey Martin, if you play on Mac I must say that I do in fact feel bad for you. It may not say much about the overall performance, but in my personal experience I have seen a huge change with crashing with more cores, usually a CPU with more cores is newer and clocks higher.

Thanks,
Niko

I believe there should be some sort of system like the Jammer as in if the person nuking dc’s/times out etc the nuke would be jammed for 5 minutes and if he doesn’t come back within the time frame then the nuke will explode.

Some sort of system/feature related to that would be nice as it gives a player some sort of chance to come back instead of just timing out and not being arsed to rejoin.

I do think this a good idea, the timer should stay paused for at most 5 minutes so this gives the owner time to reconnect. I understand that some people may not be able to reconnect within 5 minutes but this is a nuke we are talking about which only one person can launch every so often.
