Explain how you feel that your time as a moderator will contribute to you becoming an admin.
As a moderator, I fulfilled my duty well as a staff by not only doing the required action of helping with F1s that occur on the server, but I also gave my attention towards the players who just needed help in general on SSRP. Not only is it a moderator's duty to handle F1s, but I think he/she should actually seek out new players who might need help and talk to them about Zarp, base with them a bit so they like the server, and finally, maybe get them to the point where they main the server and start giving back to the community themselves. This is what I did for several players when they joined the server and asked to base, or at least in a bit of scenario. In any one that didn't involve basing, I would tell the player how they should go about doing an action for money, respect, or just following the rules.
On top of that, I also helped out admins in certain events, which really should be considered, as the events are what get players that extra excitement for playing on the server, and knowing that the staff will have something up their sleeves to get everybody going on the servers. Not only did I help with events such as simply blasting every player to death in a field, but I also went on to help do the actual rule handling of the event, making sure everybody applied themselves to the rules of the event. Events are important overall to get players engaged and communicating.
Within the community, I also got a good reputation with the players. Within each gang I've been in, and other allied gangs I've based and communicated with, most, if not, all of the people who I met took me seriously and wanted me to help them within the certain rule breaks they encountered as we raided (assuming other F1s weren't needing to be handled). And you may ask, why did they respect me? Well, when it came down to the rule break, there was no joking around. Everybody knew that the rules needed handling, and if someone were to intentionally break the rules of the server, they would be dealt with no funny business, and swiftly, so they don't cause further havoc.
Finally, there's another part of my moderator experience I'd like to explain. On the 16th of February, a defiant user tried to submit reports of staff abuse on me as I dealt with them, even though the player had a past history of massive disrespecting and rule breaking the previous hours right in front of my eyes. Since I brought the player upon a first offense, the player tried to make F1s labeled as "Staff Abuse", which I canceled due to the fact that he was submitting that simply to get out of the F1, and go on to do what he/she was doing. I hope to my best that he doesn't mind I mention his name in my application, but Jordan Johnston quickly heard about the situation and reported it back to Gustro, who brought me to a roof where I was to explain myself. He had strictly told me that through the players eyes, it seemed as if I didn't respect their opinion on what I was doing, and was not listening to what the player had to say. I'd like to apologize with all the responsibility I can gather to say that I will never deny another F1 that claimed I was abusing, this day forward. If I do end up doing it, it is simply by mistake or an entirely explainable situation.
Now that I have that off my shoulders, here's my experience as a moderator. I not only handled F1s, but I dealt with new players and taught them about the server, and engaged players within events that I helped fund, engage in, or moderate myself, and as well, I have kept a great, if not, excellent reputation in the community. With all that explained, I am also sorry for the staff abuse, and I admit to my mistake and hope to the best of my ability that it will not happen again.
Explain a situation as a moderator you encountered that was an obstacle you had to work around (EG: defiant user).
Since my last application, I have actually gone through many different situations that involved me not being able to deal with the player with my current powers, so I'll resort to one that happened recently.
It was a late night, for me at least, on server two, and that's when a good friend of mine, Sam the Sausage (who said that I could mention his name in my application), was RDMed several times by both a Police Officer and a Gun Dealer, and RDAed by the Police Officer. I called both up to the rooftop to have them explain themselves, and that I was downloading something, so they better be quick. I reminded them both that I had their SteamIDs recorded and ready to use in case they left, or at least for another admin+ to use.
Both players did not have any comment to supposedly mass RDMing and mass RDAing Sam and resorted to saying that it was Sam all along who was RDMing them. Obviously, they weren't telling the truth, as their names showed up in console far too often and Sam's showed up once to kill the RDMing Police Officer (gun dealer was away at that time, doing other things on the server) which I witnessed.
After telling both players this, I came to the decision that they were somehow planning this as I spoke because they left at the exact same time (left, not timed out). I tried contacting every staff I had on steam to help get them and ban them for an extended period of time, but alas, none of the staff were actually online. One was planning to come on, but couldn't for an unknown reason.
The point of that entire story is that this wouldn't have happened if I could just ban the players, and make sure that they didn't do any more intentional rule breaks, specifically to Sam.
If you had to write a facebook post to train a moderator in between 200-300 words, what would you say to give them the full grasp?
Hello, and congrats on becoming a staff member on SSRP! Before you go off to help others, read through these commands and menus so you know what you are doing.
F1 Menu
Shows these three things, depending on what menu you are on:
-Logs
Shows kills money drops, class changes, steamID, etc. Does not show the exact damage done to other players.
-Admin Requests
F1s made by other users are shown here, handle them as you described in your application.
-Warnings
Shows warnings of players on the server, use for copying SteamID and other steam related things.
F6 Menu
Shows ragdolls, jails, warns, kicks, bans, any staff related punishment to a player that's currently on the server, regardless of the expiration of the warn/ban.
/goto
Sets yourself to a player, relative to their 'y' distance on the map. Don't worry about 'y' distance unless they are in a raid as you handle the player who you went to.
/tp
Brings you, or a player to the place you are pointed at on the map. Be sure not to mess this up when bringing players to rooftops!
/back
Sets you or a player back to the recent place they were teleported from. Use this for finishing F1s and returning players. You can add 'spawn' at the end to send them back to spawn.
/freeze
Freezes a player in place. The player cannot do any movement actions, or look around. They also cannot use any weapons that they have out. Use this for defiant users.
/slay
Kills a player on command. Use this for killing a person who may have had a gun out that their class wasn't supposed to have, and you need to get rid of their weapon or make sure they holster it.
/warn
Warns a player for a rule they may have broken on a second offense or strict first offense. If there is a mass rule break, resort to kicking the player instead, or have an admin+ ban them for a certain amount of time.
/kick
Use this for defiant users who will either not learn from past mistakes on what rule they broke, or for massive rule breaks that don't fall under just warning or banning for a certain period of time.
/unwarn
Un warns a player for the warn they had. Use this if you make a false warn, or warn the wrong person.
Explain how you would handle the following situation:
Player x appeals their ban in great detail, apology, and effort. You check the ban list and find that you banned them permanently for prop spam and that this is their first ban. How would your response to the appeal be?
Hello,
x.
This has been the first ban you received, and I would like you to know that it was for prop spam, if you didn't know already. Now, the thing about prop spam is that it causes massive server lag, which is extremely bad because it punishes other players for something that they didn't do. You should know better than to do this, as it is extremely bad. However, through your apologetic ways, the staff team has decided to unban you. Please do not do this again, as it will either take longer for you to be unbanned, or you won't be able to appeal this ban at all!
Accepted, lock, please.
Why I should be promoted (we recommend around 150 words).
While many of the things I say in this part were already said above, I will still be including them.
One reason I should be promoted is because of my attendance as a staff member. Not only have I shown that I can positively handle most F1s that are moderator accessible, but I also show that as a moderator, I still attend the same amount of staff activity as some admins, super admins, heck, even some head admins. I have so far attended every meeting except for a single one, which was caused by the fact that I and a few guys who were partly staff just needed a break on the server, and took off one week. I have also shared opinions in each meeting that made staff reconsider some things that they said, and also make the staff team realize some key points withing handling F1s and meeting handling. While I don't really refer to actually running a meeting, I show staff good was of explaining situations that are opinion changing (well, at least besides referring to dogs, as I have for some meetings. That was kind of childish and only meant to be funny).
With that, I should also be accepted because of the fact that I've given a positive attitude towards this job and what it has given for me. I don't staff just because I have to, I staff because I like to. Like I referred to in my other applications, I find it quite fun, to be honest, to deal with players and what they need on the server, whether it be rule breaking, or they just need to know some information on what goes on in the server. I handle the F1s themselves with lots of detail, making sure that the player is heard over the staff (to the extent that the player tries to interrupt the staff). I have never lashed out at a player within a sit, and I can keep a good temper during the sit I'm in, whether I'm helping another staff, or just watching over a sit.
I also have a great ability in running the F1s quickly. When a player makes an F1, they just want the player to know what they did wrong, and move on with their day, not hear about the five-page essay I wrote five years ago that somehow relates to the event that we're in. During each sit, I work in a type of system. That system is hearing both sides of the story, asking for proof, then either making warns or not, I explain to each player how they should've went about handling the situation that they were in, and lower the guilt on players who may have or did break rules.
Finally, I was able to help out other staff with certain situations, and make sure that they stay as staff. As a staff, I recognize that all of us are human, and we're all prone to mistakes. It is not my job to tell a staff member every five minutes what nitpicking details they did wrong, but rather if I see them doing something extremely wrong, and could disrupt the experience of a player who just wants to have fun on the server, free of rule breaks. I can't write much more than "I make sure staff do their job as well as I do mine" with this part.
Also, take note that this application took a whopping 50 minutes to create, and I plan on doing F1s and improving activity if I went and did this much of an application. I thank you for reading this and consider key points when coming to a final decision. Thank you for reading, once again,
