Explain how you feel that your time as a moderator will contribute to you becoming an admin: I have a firm grasp of the commands, the way I should present myself on the server and how to deal with users. Combining that with my experience from bhop; surf is a very similar environment and as such the skills are transferable and valuable.
Explain a situation as a moderator you encountered that was an obstacle you had to work around (EG: defiant user): Surf is usually very relaxed however I have encountered a couple of difficult events. One example was when there were users being racist and no staff were in attendance (before I had my mod rank). After trying to stop these users from acting in this way and seeing their actions continues I contacted OnionRings who helped resolve things. Since I have had mod however I have not needed to use my powers in this manner. I however have taught multiple users to surf and used commands such as spectator to help in this.
If you had to write a letter to train a moderator in between 100-200 words, what would you say to give them the full grasp?:
Congratulations and welcome to the team. Below I have listed the newly available commands to use for moderation. These can be found by opening up the leaderboard and left clicking on a player:
- Chat Mute: This command should be used when a player is using their text chat in a discriminatory manner and will prevent the user from using voice chat. This should be used in increasing increments if this player continues to abuse their chat privileges
- Voice Mute: This command should be used when a player is using their voice chat in a discriminatory manner and will prevent the user from using voice chat. This should be used in increasing increments if this player continues to abuse their mic privileges.
- Kick: This command kicks the player from the server and should be used following breaches in different rules under specific circumstances. Escalation beyond kicking are bans that can be provided by admins or warnings, found in your !warns command.
- Strip Weapons: This command will remove the weapons from the player and should be utilised if users are abusing their weapons to annoy others.
- Sharing Check: This will check if the user is using a family shared version of the game. If they are you will be given the option to ban them. This should be used to check if users are avoiding server bans by using alternate accounts.
- Spectate: The spectate command is useful if you're helping someone learn surf or for checking if people are using scripts. Unlike the normal spectate command you will not be reset to the start of the map once you leave spectator.
Explain how you would handle the following situation:
Player x appeals their ban in great detail, apology and effort. You check the ban list and find that Staff Member x banned them permanently for Exploiting, and that this is their first ban. How would your response to the appeal be?
Initially, I would check with the staff member that banned them and run through the ban from their perspective to check on the validity of the appeal. I would also check that the staff member was happy for me to proceed with the appeal. Once happy with the appeal and me handling it and if they were indeed regretful, truthful and sincere in their apology I would see no reason to keep this user banned. As this is a permanent ban I would look to reduce the ban if this user was appealing in the first couple of weeks to a lesser ban. If it had been a while since the ban I would look to unban immediately. First offenses in my opinion should always be treated leniently and any offenses past that with a more severe view.
Why I should be promoted (we recommend around 100 words): For the same reasons as bhop. I'm known in the community and am very active, communicative and friendly online. I know many of the regulars and chat with them often. I feel I play an active and vocal part of the community. I'm social on the staff side too and partake in discussions and staff meetings whilst also providing suggestions for server improvement. I believe I can be an invaluable asset to the team and hope that shows in this application.
Extra Information: (Not Required) Some of this application shares questions from the bhop admin application and as such my answers reflect that.
