TOPIC: Six Months of Laughs, Love and Tears

Six months. Six months ago I decided to boot up Garry's Mod after having completely ignored it for two-and-a-half years. And man my life has changed a lot since then.

Perhaps some context is needed. The decision to play Gmod on that Saturday the 4th of March did not come out of nowhere.

So three years ago I played Trouble in Terrorist Town on The Nexus Nation, which at the time had multiple Gmod servers though it currently only does CS:GO related things. It was a lot of fun - I met a group of people that I had a great time playing with. Occasionally I even still speak to some of them, though almost all of us have switched to playing other games or just generally doing other things with our lives.

Over time, the headset I had at the time broke so playing games where a microphone was needed became... undesirable. I spent my years playing other games instead, such as EU4 and CK2. However, back in February a friend of mine asked me if we wanted to speedrun Psychonauts. That was fine with me, but as I didn't have a headset it would be a little hard. So I decided to spend some money and buy one.

In case anyone's curious, we didn't get far speedrunning the game. It became very apparent very quickly that I would win, and he didn't want to play anymore.

So I did some things for a few weeks, until I decided one Saturday to boot up Garry's Mod again. As I now had a microphone for the first time in years, playing TTT would be fun again. As I didn't have any real preference (besides the fact that I did not want to play on some stupid Minecraft map) I decided to pick the server that seemed the most appealing, in this case ZARP's TTT Server 2.

The funny thing is, had I come any weeks earlier I would not have joined this community. Server one did not appeal to me that much, and Server 2 literally just launched.

Nonetheless I played on the server and, well, I quickly realized I would be staying. I joined Teamspeak for the first time on Monday after multiple staff members (if I recall correctly mostly Johnler) kept urging me to join, where I met countless of people that I will forever hold close to my heart.

It was quite impressive for me, a community such as this one. To be fair, I really did not see how I could possibly fit in there. Because of this I did not want to apply for TTT Moderator straight away, even though people kept telling me I should. I knew that the recommended time for staff was two weeks of consistent activity, so with only a single week I did not see how I could possibly get accepted.

After some conversations with Johnler and Raa and some others I got convinced to apply for Moderator that same week. And, well, I'm extemely thankful that I did.

Anyone remember the very first post I ever made? I'd guess not, but here it is for you anyway:

Or does anyone remember my original TTT application?

Man, that brings back memories. Throwback Monday anyone?

Or how about the very first time I said "sorry" publically on the forums - which, might I add, happened two weeks and a day after I joined the community.


These past six months have been an absolutely amazing time. I've gotten farther than I ever thought I would. When Johnler said "You'll get Super Admin extremely quickly" before I even applied for Moderator, I almost called him mad.

I already made a huge "Thank You" post last month, but I'll still give a thank you list with everyone I can think of:

I know for a fact that this isn't even close to the amount of people that should be on there. Note that the order means literally nothing - I just made the list from the first people I could think of.

So yeah, thanks people. I have had an absolutely amazing time here, let's hope I'll still be here in another six months.
