From someone who owns a HTC Vive
here is my 2c

It is amazing, it is an experience unlike anything else. Mobile VR and even the Rift do not compare.

It is also expensive as hell. 1/2 the price of my very expensive PC.

It also requires a lot of space, and the more space you have the better.

There are also not too many games at this time.

But I can say, it is worth the investment if you can justify it.
It is something you'll pull out and play, whenever you want. You can experience something amazing, and unlike anything else. You can view impossible alien worlds, and completely forget it's a game.
You can play a story based game, and it feels real, it feels as if you are that character.

True VR, through a Vive, is an expensive experience unlike anything else. Don't think of it like a controller, think of it as a second gaming PC, or a console. Because it provides something amazing, and unique.

It seems that it will be more of a technological increase then a decrease in price
At least initially.

Things like increased resolution, wireless transmission, dynamic DoF, and other things that will over-all improve the experience greatly.

On an un-related note this is making me regret lending my Vive to a friend, while using it takes a lot of setup time that I no longer have, the experience is amazing and worthwhile.
