TOPIC: The Truth about me

The Truth about me 6 years 9 months ago #648703

So I know this question comes up a lot to me. "Why do I not speak?" Answer is that i'm afraid. Not of talking. But of people hearing my voice. It's not what you think it will be. It does not suit me at all. I don't even like my voice. I have always been afraid of this but I just think I shouldn't care what people say and just talk for once. It's shocking really. Saying this but I think I find it as the best option for me. Everyone here has been a huge help and I don't even like socialising but everyone here has helped me so much. I just want to thank you all and I will start to talk. Not right away but in due time, when i'm not afraid.

Thank you for understanding and i'm sorry for hiding the truth to everyone. I don't deserve empathy or sympathy but it is for the best.

What are you talking about? I love the sound of my voice, hence why I don't stop talking.

Most people don't like their own voice. Whenever I hear my voice in a recording I cringe.

But that doesn't stop me. It's not like I can change my voice, and even if I could why would I? It would only be a lie.

I understand why you don't like speaking. Who knows what others will think? Well let me tell you this: fuck em. If they don't like your voice then they can fuck off.

You can change your voice, actually, but it is painful and expensive and not worth it at all.

TBH i think many can agree with me,
A lot of us do not like our own voice, when we hear it back.

I personally hate how my voice sounds, but speaking is SOOOOO much easier than typing.

Thank you for sharing Annie, I guess it required a lot of courage to say it.

Still, you should not be so hard with yourself, you had/have your reason for not talking, nobody will judge you. Your voice is not important here. What is important is that feel confident enough to actually to speak to us, to feel lighter and be happy.

Everyone is different. May your voice suits you or not, it's NOT for us to judge. You will still be the Annie we know and like ;)

Have a good night !

Never feel singled out or afraid about your choices, if you don't wanna speak that's entirely up to you - it's alright to feel worried of the outcome, just be yourself :side:

No one in this community is yet to know what I sound like
Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

I always hate how I sound (and look) especially when I'm singing - love to sing cause it makes me feel better (singing releases a good-feeling chemical) but when I hear myself sing (via singing app or w.e) I drill my ears in - I just sound... terrible.

I just gotta suck it up - and I'm not saying you should, like I said, your voice, your choice :side:

Back in 2014 when I first joined the community I never used my microphone, I had an extremely high voice for my age and wasn't too happy about it, which was one of the reasons I never was able to reach a lead team rank, according to some community managers back then, due to the fact that having a microphone was one of the top requirements to becoming lead team.

In 2015 however me and a friend who was equally shy about using his mic(Hitman Jerry) both encouraged each other about using our microphones, the first few sentences you say are the hardest, then it becomes much much easier, start off with talking to close friends, then normal internet friends, then hop on the server and start using your microphone

Even Max, the god tier community developer never used his mic back in the day, little bit of encouragement and he started using it more and more.

If you actually want to start using your mic, I wouldn't mind helping you out with some advice anxiety-wise and hopefully make you more comfortable while using your mic, I've helped out other community members with this and I wouldn't mind helping out.

Here's my steam link, offer is forever open, trust me when I say using your microphone is 10 times more fun and satisfying, the ability to express your emotions with your voice should be more than enough, give it some thought if you want.

added you to talk

Annie, there is no need to be afraid to use your voice, you have it for a reason, and that reason is for it to be used and heard!
I often hear my own voice and think to myself: "Do I really sound this annoying?" but I still speak, because I know that a person's voice is meant to be heard,
in the end it is up to you whether you will decide to use your mic or not, just know that you don't need to be afraid

Thank you everyone but what I mean is that my voice doesn't suit me at all. It's like a fear I have. I don't know how to get past it.

i used to be afraid too, i was afraid of speaking aswell but i did it anyway because i did not care anymore what people thought about me, i realised that if they decide to call me immature or annoying just of my voice alone i knew they weren't worth my time and i just ignored them, i'm pretty sure you have friends who won't care what you sound like and they would be happy just knowing you are comfortable enough you are willing to speak to them.

just don't be afraid, let the people you trust most hear your voice first, get comfortable with speaking and then move on to other people, you'll get there.
