I've done plenty of appeals, where i have simply poked the person, either way, you are still getting an answer, from the person who banned you, and are still able to debate. In my opinion there is nothing with "Poking" people to ask about an appeal... Onion still contacted the person who banned you, and still got you a reply to your post, meaning the methods needed to be done, were completed.
