The last cheat - that you get by completing all challenges (or in other words: by 100%-ing the game) is called Deceased Crew. I can't see a description until I've unlocked it, but what you say could be true.

Anyways, it's a lot of back-and-forth sailing, as you need to find 70 different thingies out on the sea for little to no reward.

probably the hardest one is the items you need to upgrade your ship make sure to upgrade it as soon as you can and you are good to go
and yes its the best AC game(for me at least)

The hardest thing is the fact that literally every upgrade requores metal which means you need to board like 50 different ships, or more.
