Need some help 8 years 5 months ago #262210

I got a new 144hz monitor last year and I've never been able to use 144hz on the desktop without the screen glitching the fuck out, at 120hz it works fine on the desktop but these glitches only happen on the desktop. When in games 144hz works fine and yes I've googled this loads and have not found one answer to my problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well stating "my screen glitches out" doesn't give us anything to go on, it could be anything. Try and describe how the screen is glitching out or try and get a video of it.

hard to explain but if i have a window or a program up and close it remnants of it will linger on the screen and flicker quite badly making the screen unusable but in games this never happens

This
144hz causes high amounts of power draw and temperature rises.

If your Motherboard has onboard graphics, turn off your PC and take out your GPU. Boot up without the Graphics Card and put the HDMI or whatever cable you're using into your Motherboard.
Boot into Windows and right click on your Desktop, go into Graphics Settings. It should tell you what Framerate your Monitor is running at, along with your resolution.

Let me know what happens and report back.

Also try reinstalling the drivers, seems like a driver issue to me or maybe a failing GPU(RMA it and get a new one(not AMD)), HDMI can't deliver 144 hz anyway fennster.

HDMI 2.0 tbh you dont seem to know what you're talking about i've already said i cant record what is happening on screen with a desktop recorder because it's not a gpu issue I'll record it with a phone or something when i can.

Imo you should RMA the Graphics Card and then while you're at it get a better CPU cooler, maybe liquid cooling.
