TOPIC: What's the difference between grade and year?

I am in a relationship with this girl that said she was 12. I am also 12. I am in Year 8 which is apparently Grade 6. After 3 days she told me she was keeping a lie, she is actually 11. Her birthday is 1 June and mine is 4 July. I asked whether she was in Highschool or not. I assumed she was. She lives in South Africa and I assume she would be in Year 7, right? She is planning to move to the UK next year. Anyways, I asked her, and she said she was in middle school. And middle school is Year 3,4,5 and 6. Is it different there? Are Year 7s in middle school there?

I appreciate you for reading. I'd love some responses.

Grade 12 -> Year 13
Grade 11 -> Year 12

And so on.

In England, we have primary school which is foundation(4-5), then Year 1(5-6) etc. Up to Year 6(10-11).

Then secondary school starts and it begins with Year 7(11-12), Year 8(12-13) etc up to about Year 12 or 13. Then we can do college and shit or do sixth form at my school (which no one knows what it is as they are always sitting in the lounge with drinks.)
