GPU and CPU for 330 8 years 11 months ago #141076

Hey, I need the pc experts on this one

I am getting a used pc at the beginning of summer break, its from home, my parents said I could keep it. The only thing is, it has a very crappy graphics card. I have a budget of 400 to 500 around 330 euros and would like to see what you would buy!.

these are the current specs

EDIT: And here are the full specs of my pc atm HP pavilion elite HPE 350NL

Yeah, I think getting a 400-500€ graphic card would just unbalance your specs and you might get CPU limited on some games.
By the way, what power supply do you have ? If you have to change your CPU you might have to buy a cheaper GPU then I'd advise you to buy a AMD graphic card but they "slightly" need more power than Nvidia's so you should check if your power supply can handle it.

If you could just post more specs (power supply, motherboard), more details and also tell what games you are playing we might be able to help you more cuz you can't just upgrade a computer like that if it's too old or just not powerful enough on some specs.

+1 : I don't think he needs a 980 which is a high end GPU made for strong computer. It's useless/pointless with a such CPU.
I'd recommand a R9 280(X) (even maybe a 270X) or a 970 (but still really big GPU compared to the CPU).

Are you aware a new CPU will require you to need a new motherboard with the correct socket?

Don't go for a 960, 970 and 980 are great but 960 is complete shit and.
Go for a R9 280X or a R9 290 ;)

CPU look good, but you could take a 8350 (I think) instead, it's really good but you would have to get a new motherboard so you should stay on Intel ;) i5-4460 looks fine !

But please, really don't go on a 960 !

Thing with AMD CPU is that there are tons of "cheap" motherboard so it's difficult to really know what to choose. I mean, unless you take a really expensive gaming motherboard the chances that the motherboard I give you as ref could not be available at your store. Just choose a motherboard that has the right chipset, on which you can have four memory bar and that can fit your computer case.

It depends, if you buy an Intel CPU it has to have the right socket.
You said you have a i7 860. I've found out that it was a 1156 which I think is a 1155 renamed.
So basically, you need to buy a processor with the 1155socket or if you buy another processor, you need to buy a motherboard with the right socket.

Just realized you had a HP computer, then I advise you to buy a new motherboard and a new CPU because if you don't you might not be able to change your CPU because HP disallows you to change your material.

(Sorry for my english, I make quick replies and I'm kinda tired)
