Help for members that wish to resign/leave ZARP 10 years 4 months ago #63744

If you are reading this, then you probably are thinking of resigning or leaving ZARP. You aren't alone, a lot of people have thought about resigning, but most for silly reasons that are not worth it. I'm making this post to help you realize that you should probably stay with ZARP for it probably needs every single one of us, to make it a better place.

Common reasons for resigning and solutions:
  1. Been told/thinking that you are doing a bad job as a staff member.
Solution: This is one of the most common reasons for a resignation poll or thread that I've seen since I joined ZARP. The only thing you need to know about this, is that there will always be people who hate you or that you hate in the world, you can't back out on something you like because of them. You just have to remember that if you think you are doing a good job then you are probably right. Now what if you think you are doing a bad job? In this case, I suggest that you follow these steps:
    • Find the reason(s) to why you think you are doing such a bad job, this could be some rules you might have broke or having a bad personality/ being disliked by a lot of people.
    • Find a way to solve these problems,
    • Consult help from experienced staff if they think the solutions you have come up with will work.
    • After gathering the advice, do what your heart/inner voice tells you, and solve the problems you are facing.

  2. Staff bothering you, that you can't seem to get off him/her off your tail.
Solution: Some people encounter, that abuse, annoy or insult you or someone you know without them getting punished for it, can lead to thoughts of resigning or leaving the community. In my opinion, this shows that you are giving up, which I'm sure no one likes to do. I also think that you want justice so badly that you think resigning or leaving will help the lead team realize the importance of resolving the problem, but its not the only way nor is it the correct way. Speaking from a lot of past experience, I know that although resigning might help it won't help as much as you working on demoting him or having him talked to.
To conclude, I've called many many people that consider resigning because of this reason, cowards, whimps or fools. That is true, they probably are too scared/lazy to try and do something about the abuse, hopefully you won't follow thier bad example.

  3. To get people's attention.
Solution: This is not really a solution since, there is no problem to begin with. Some ZARP Community Members, don't think they are getting enough attention, so they go on and type a resignation post saying they "MIGHT" resign etc... Although you are right, it does grab people's attention so, yes you are right about that part, but the thing you don't know is that whenever you pull this stunt, you are loosing the good reputation you might have along with the trust bond, that you have with others.

  4. Following bandwagons (Thanks to Blocked for the idea and name!)
Solution: I would like to concentrate on this reason, because I've seen many resign because of this. So, lets say an SA gets demoted, people that think he shouldn't have been punished in a severe way or punished to begin with, tend to resign with them.. instead of trying to fill in his spot. So basically, what you are doing here, is getting rid of depression by suiciding, which means you are giving up. I would suggest in this case, that you actually try to reason with the lead Team about this "rule breaker". If that fails, you can always encourage him to apply again and to prove that he has changed to everyone.

  5. Getting denied for Admin/Mod.
Solution: Now I've seen a lot of Zarp members making resigning/leaving threads because they got denied for a staff slot. Now I do not know the feeling of getting denied on ZARP(not yet), since I've only applied for admin and mod on SSRP. Although, I think I understand that you probably wanted the rank badly and maybe thought you had a big chance. Now I'll explain why its not a good idea to make a resignation post, some might make a resignation post in order to show how much they wanted the rank and probably, not resign; one thing you should know about this is that this brings down your chance of getting accepted to %5-%20. Others make a resignation post to try and let the anger/sadness out, I suggest you talk to an SA or CM instead of making a resignation post. Last but not least, some just ask for reasons and say that if they don't get valid ones, they will resign. These are the 3 common examples why people resign because of the reason stated above. The solution would be, to contact anyone who you might think can help or ask staff on steam/ts for advice oh how to improve, instead of making the resignation thread because it usually just lowers your chances of being accepted.

Johnny kinda playing the therapist here. :D
Anyways, it's very cool that you want to help those people who want to resign. Especially since you don't have to, you just simply do it because you are a very nice guy. Respect man!

Thanks for this Johnny, I am sure this will help a lot of staff that are feeling down to make the right decision and stay at zarp instead of resigning.

What you have said is true.
I left, and I hated what happened after... Then I ended up waddling back.
Also, how does Exrobite have that much Karma? It doesn't make sense.

UPDATE
I have added reason 5 with a solution, since I've seen about 5-8 resignation threads about the specific reason.

This document is great indeed but remember. Best method to not make someone leave is to talk to him.

Yeah, I have to agree with Gregory on this one, confronting people and hearing what they have to say would really make them feel better and change their mind about what they are doing.
You are right about that, contact me on steam if anyone thinks he can convince people to not resign, I'll place his name on the thread.

I would just like to point out that if people are considering resigning it may be better to just leave them be until they have made their decision.

By convincing people not to it could feel more of a chore than enjoyment to play on the ZARP servers.

That's your opinion, I've had experience with this and if it wasn't because of some staff members convincing me to stay, I wouldn't be here now. I enjoy Zarp now more than ever, thanks to them :D
