In my opinion you shouldn't learn how to code purely by using tools like codeacademy. Don't get me wrong it's not like they are bad or you can't learn anything from them. My problem with them is that you have to work on general tasks that you have no personal interest in solving in. It'll start out great but you will get bored quickly and it will feel monotonous. It's much more fun and much more efficient when you get to work on stuff that you enjoy. Find something that bothers you, something you really wanna see done, something you've got a personal interest in solving and start working on it.
