I get what you mean, but I'm just going by what I've seen over the past few years. Even when Christmas craftables were first introduced, they've never kept any of them after the Christmas update was finished. Tends to happen with most, if not all updates.
The only things that are generally kept that aren't case items are items that are more like little mementos of the experience, e.g. the rotten food selection from Halloween, or the coal from Christmas every year.
I think the problem here is this is the first update (I think, I'm not 100%) where they've introduced craftables and none of them are keep able post-update, which leads to questions like this.
But despite all that, I see what you mean. It might be handy to know if they do plan on keeping anything this time so you can plan accordingly and use the candy canes before they expire. I mean, if you've got 1,000 of each cane, it's a little discouraging to have every single one of them be deleted after the update because you couldn't use them in time.
On that same line of reasoning, it might also be beneficial to introduce a small compensation scheme where players are given some kind of redemption for their useless items. Like canes translate to a certain amount of cash after the event or something. But I suppose that would run into the issue of just how much each cane is valued at, considering that if they valued each cane at 100 dollars, then someone with a 1,000 canes would still only get 100,000 dollars, which really isn't much. But if they were valued at 1 mil, then someone with a 1,000 canes would get a hundred mil back. Which might be seen as getting an unfair incentive or encourage players to simply disregard crafting things in the first place... Okay, might have just talked myself out of that idea.
I mean I see your points here but as a person myself that owns a few thousand of each different candy cane. I see no point in using them because I have no need to at this current stage and I dont exactly want them go to waste like they will if I craft items for the sake of it and then they get removed out of the blue. Along with this I assume the candy canes themselves will get removed meaning even if I dont use them to craft I still lose the items so why add then in first place. As u say the compensation if any would either be nothing at all or probably too much
