I'd imagine it's probably really hard to differentiate that though. My guess is they will probably try to revert the situation and rollback the crates opened to crate + key. Cuz you can't instantly sell stuff you just opened anyway right?

it'll be really hard to roll back, idk what their options are at this stage, i think their best bet is honestly just fixing the bug, keeping unusuals as pretty common, and making more rarer classes of items

I got 2 unusuals that were worth 800% the price I paid for case+key.
Valve can't do shit here, the only thing they can do is just fix the drop chance. I'd wait around 2-3 months for the hat prices to rise so you can profit from them.

Trade ban? For what? That would make no sense...
For example, what if you randomly decided to open one of the cases without knowing the madness that's going on, besides what does trading have anything to do with these items?
If you ask me, they should just make these unusuals untradable and unmarketable, even though that is entirely their fault and they shouldn't punish users for that.
