What are you trying to aim for in terms of gameplay? I could see this being an interesting version of Hotline Miami
The game jam theme that we did was Dark vs Light. The idea is that the thing in the middle will be their spawns and you will have to go over to it and activate it to stop them from spawning and start the next round. You will get credits for each enemy you kill and will able to upgrade your stuff at a shop that I haven't done yet. Other than that I don't know much more to do. I have till tomorrow to do this lol
What kind of upgrades are we thinking of specifically? Have you thought about adding perks or stat upgrades to your character or stat upgrades?
Stuff like:
- Swan song (yoink from payday) where you get a 5-10 second 'last stand' period of invincibility before you die and need revived
- Health regen
- Damage boost (can have varied types depending on the list of available weapons)
- "Bringer of light" that expands the circle of light around you
- "Unstoppable force" - increases your movement speed but reduces your damage
- "Immovable object" - increases damage but slows movement speed
but make it so you can only equip a certain number of perks so you'd don't become an end-game player from Saints Row 3 where the only way to die is by being constantly run over by a car
You could also add challenge modes that effectively give you negative-perks that give the game a bit of a difficult increase, I think binding of isaac has a similar system?
