Marvel follows a similar guideline to the comics in their MCU, but don't follow them to the letter.
For example, at the end of Civil War - Cap was supposed to win, but was then supposed to be arrested and killed a short time later. Furthermore, Infinity War actually came out before Civil War in the comics. Civil War was 2006, Infinity War was actually known as THE Infinity War, and it was all the way back in 1992. In both comics, a vast number of superheroes and supervillains were involved. In fact, in "The Infinity War", the main villain is different, Thanos is technically a good guy, and the main hero is Adam Warlock - a character who hasn't even been in the movies yet.
