Keep in mind:

Thanos is the only Marvel villain so far to technically win at the end of a film. He's been built up for ten years to be exactly that kind of character; one who dominates the cast, one who divides them and just wipes the floor with everyone, and everything. Notice how no matter what potential victory scenario we were presented with - from the possibility of Hulk kicking the crap out of him, all the way to Thor using Stormbreaker on him, nothing worked because they didn't want to give us that easy way out this time. It's all building to the final Avengers film next year. AND YOU BEST BE READY, SON

Marvel follows a similar guideline to the comics in their MCU, but don't follow them to the letter.
For example, at the end of Civil War - Cap was supposed to win, but was then supposed to be arrested and killed a short time later. Furthermore, Infinity War actually came out before Civil War in the comics. Civil War was 2006, Infinity War was actually known as THE Infinity War, and it was all the way back in 1992. In both comics, a vast number of superheroes and supervillains were involved. In fact, in "The Infinity War", the main villain is different, Thanos is technically a good guy, and the main hero is Adam Warlock - a character who hasn't even been in the movies yet.

I saw it today, and i must say. Im kinda happy that is not a normal ending, like the "happy ever after ending" that is in every avengers movie. This is really hyping me up for the next movie, like for real

Why?
2 Reasons

1. The ending was so well made and prepared that it kinda blew me away , not only that they went for the "unthinkable" and killed half the heroes , but it was done in a way that you couldnt say " It was bullshit" , Thanos was obviously more powerful than any of them , and for once there wasnt any miracle to save the day

2. I grew up with these characters.... I remember being a kid , and after finishing school I would rush home to watch the old cartoons with Spiderman , Iron Man and such...
These characters were my childhood , and watching them die , the heroes that I grew up with , watching them die was just heartbreaking...

Spiderman was my favourite out of them all , I was watching the movies , reading the comics , ever since i was 6 years old , now im 19 . And the way he died in this movie just broke me .

But it was a great movie , one that I will never forget

And it also saddens me that one day ill have kids and ill have to explain them who these characters were XD
