This topic is super contriversial and very sensitive, not sure why we are even discussing it on a gaming fourm, but ill give my opinion on it.

How about you don't touch any rights of an American but instead make the process of obtaining a firearm more rigorous and extensive rather than just a simple background check.

The only guns that are issues in America are fully automatic weapons, they're the major issue in these shootings. However, banning them will not do a single damn thing considering if they ARE banned nobody will give them up and it will create a huge cartel or black market on illegal weaponry. You can look to Australia or Britain as examples of places with good gun control that works however their countries founding principles were not built on defending yourself and your property, hence the second amendment. Do I think people should have fully automatic weapons? No, and I don't think the founding fathers envisioned an entire population having access with background checks to these weapons that are capable of this much destruction, but banning them won't do a damn thing positive.

Everyone can agree that gun shootings are bad. When the gun discussion is being brought up, it's always about the most extreme argument e.g. "Ban guns entirely". Banning guns does not solve the issue, but ensuring that people have more trouble obtaining them or even ensuring that the population is more aware of the dangers of firearms can be a great help.
