Watched Hereditary most recently at home.
As much as I enjoy how messed up it is, I'm not sure I agree with the premise that it's one of the best horror films of recent years. Don't ask me why, I just think that there are others that hold a special place. Don't Breathe is especially nasty and resonates with way more people. As is A Quiet Place.
In the theatres, I don't really remember. I don't even know if I've seen any films this year tbh
Watched it, had no idea what's going on, hated it, my first thought through the film was is the mother and son were mental as she listed of her family memebers who died as mentally unwell so I thought title hereditry and tried too link it, turns out the film is just bonkers
Bear with me here, but the long and short of it is: The psycho grandma belonged to a cult and was leading it, raised her granddaughter (who I think may have some form of mental issue) to be the vessel for her cult's object of worship, Paimon.
But Paimon no like vagina.
So after grandma died of being a selfish bitch, her cult starts the process of getting Paimon BEST BOI BODY, which happens to be pothead grandson.
Cult decides to murder entire family, including bitch-ass mom, logical and caring dad, and daughter who was Paimon's original vessel but not good nuff.
But they don't murder them normally. Nah, they let their demon Daddy Dom murder the family by possessing objects and people and beheading a 13-year-old girl with a telephone pole
Film ends with Paimon being the granddaughter in the grandson's body being worshipped by naked cult members with the headless corpses of granddaughter, mom and grandmother in the room worshipping too because that's how to make movie big scare
