TOPIC: Staff Ethos (Broken down and explained)

Today I'm going to try my best to explain the staff ethos to any staff who may not be familiar or haven't read it already, We are so lucky that EMP has created this to help resolve the staff which may have been called "abusive" at the time.



Alright so, basicly a staff members job to save the person In need on the server, think of it as a virtual superman, some bitch is crying for help you fly in save the day and you both go your own ways smiling, thats what a staff member should be. What they shouldn't be is someone looking for reasons to warn people, sometimes just because a person is breaking a rule doesn't mean you should warn then for it, think of the situation in the others persons boots, are they trying to cause distress to the people around them? or are they just 1v1ing away from spawn, training they aim. Many staff today feel like if a rule is broken, then a warn should be issued, Of course technically the person 1v1ing is still breaking a rule and even if the person accidentally crossfire another dude walking by, there is no need to warn them for that, sometimes a verbal is all that it takes since if a player knows the rules and accidentally unwillingly breaks them then be easy on the guy. Now think of a guy who constantly loopholes pretty much every rule in the book and willingly tries to cause distress on the people around him, thats a douchebag and he needs dealing with, so as a staff member it is your job to inform him that what he is doing is unacceptable and their will be consequences, and even with a new player who is unfamiliar to the rules, you may warn him but at the end of the day what is a warning to a guy who dosen't know the rules, it is your job to inform him of the rules aswell, not just punish the guy.


I'm going to side with staff for this one, people think of staff as machines, just because one time you saw a staff slacking being useless (don't deny that there hasn't been staff proven useless who were demoted) from the idea of a bad staff member you may assume everyone who slacks is a bad staff member but you don't know if before you're f1 the guy had to deal with 20 more or even if he is having a bad day he is a person after all and he has as much of a right to enjoy the server as you do. As mentioned in the paragraph above sometimes staff shouldn't warn just because someone broke a rule, and even if someone broke a bannable rule unwillingly does that mean you should ban them? Or does it mean you should reform them and turn them into a nice guy because just like staff every person may have a reason to rulebreak, maybe they got scammed for 300 mill which they earned by skipping sleep on school nights, rulebreaking is never okay but think before you do something, you never know the person behind the player, not everyone is like this ofcourse since there are people who come on just to rulebreak, but please take a moment to analyse the situation and even if staff can punish the player however they seem fit, think about it before you do it.



Thanks EMP for this amazing ethos, I suggest reading this if you want people to respect staff more as this explanation is written by someone who used to despise staff from a personal situation, people may say just gather proof and make a report against the abusing staff but sometimes its not that easy and I believe instead of demoting staff we could change them just like they could easily change a rulebreaker into a great guy in the community, remember we all did shit we regret but don't judge a guys past and try to allways anaylse a situation before you punish people.

Im not going to put a tl:dr because if you actually care you should read all of it and if you don't just click off...

When I was staff, before the ethos was written, I honestly thought this was common sense but clearly not lol
