TOPIC: Stuck on "Retrieving Server Info"

Hey guys!

Since about 3 days ago, I keep having an error with connecting to any ZARP server, both DarpRP and TTT. It freezes at Retrieving Server Info and after about 15 minutes it times me out.

I tried

• Restarting Garry's Mod
• Deleting Local Data
• Removing the garrysmod map in Steamapps/Common/Garrysmod
• Uninstalling all of my addons
• Look for answers online (that did should've been able to help me)

I still see the ZARP logo and that loading "wheel" spinning around, but after waiting 15 minutes it just times me out.

If you could help me out, I'd give you a cyber cookie. Sadly my cat ate them.

Anyways, if you know a fix to this, please post it here. I'd appreciate it

Have you tried reinstalling the game? That might do the thing.

Did you try to turn off your refrigerator and turn it on again?
Also, try to take the black cable from the router and connect it to the refrigerator..

What did you do before this occured ?

Played on a private server with a few friends of mine. No addons or mods, and it was gm_flatgrass.

Is this only happening on Zarp servers? Have you tried join any others to see if they work?

Yes, it only happens when connecting to ZARP servers.

Okay this also occurs to me for the past few days.
And yes only on ZARP Servers.

But I somehow also fucked up my Gmod.
I fixed it with verify game cache + cleaning up some temp files in the garrysmod folder.

EDIT: It didn't work ;c
It keeps validating, saying 1 file is missing, but I can't figure out which file or why it's glitching my Gmod.

I am not familiar with ZARP's server structure at all, but I've had similar situations in the past where I was excluded from joining certain servers because my DNS settings was set to something else which caused issues such as this - I am guessing some servers blacklists certain IPs for some inexplicable reason. Have you recently set your adapter settings to receive a specific IP on your network?

Also, having Googled a bit about the issue, it would seem like something is wrong with the servers - the people I've come across with the same problem you're having, said that a server restart might be required before you can join.

Don't know if this helps, but I am crossing my fingers!

Maybe somehow your firewall or your router is blocking out any connection to the IP Range in which ZARP Servers are running.

Quick update,

I tried:

• Disabling my firewall
• Restarting Router
• Checking if my router blocked anything
• Remove and download Steam again
• Wait it out
• Lie down, don't cry, cry a lot.

None of these options worked. Also Xalius, how can I check said DNS? I personally didn't change anything, but is it possible that a power outage could do something like that? Because if not, then A, I should study more for Physics (xd) and B, I'll have no idea what to do.

Before you proceed, please note!
If your DNS setting is set to receive a specific DNS address, there may from time to time be some screw-ups when you try to access a server such as the ZARP DarkRP server. I can't guarantee at all if this is your problem, in many cases this has been an issue to me when I use a specific address, but it's worth a shot for you anyways.

The ZARP DarkRP server might even need to be restarted before you can join should this not work.

Assuming it's Windows 7, then you need to do the following:

In the bottom right corner of your toolbar, you will likely see a network icon, right click it and click on "Open network and sharing center":


A new window will open and you will see your basic network information settings. In the left side of the window, click on the "Change adapter settings" link:


You'll then see a new window with all of your available network connections, it will look like this - right click the one that says "Local Area Connection" and select the "Properties" link (note it will require you to have administration rights on the computer you're using - which you likely have):


A new window will open with the items your current connection is using, to check your DNS settings, right click on the one that says "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)":


Now finally, you will see two areas on the window where you can select from two options menu, go to the last one and make sure your DNS setting is set to: "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and not "Use the following DNS server addresses".
If your network demands a specific DNS address do remember to backup the two addresses in the specified fields so you can reverse back to the way it was so nothing else screws up:

It already was on "automatically obtain adress" for both of them.
I was glad to see that your guide worked, even on Windows 8.1 xd

I'm still trying out some stuff like validating the files every now and then and trying to connect, and I checked my firewall, disabled it, uninstalled the firewall I downloaded etc, but none of it seems to work. ;c

I'll check if I may be able to play on a different Computer, because if I can, then it means it has something to do with my laptop.

Do you by any chance have any mods installed for Garry's Mod that could potentially contaminate the connection between you and the server?

Got rid of all the mods and addons about 3 days ago, didn't help in any way ;c
