TOPIC: Staff allowed to warn ppl they reported

Staff allowed to warn ppl they reported 3 years 4 months ago #1286428

Why is this allowed? Seems like something that can be abused and biased a lot. I just had this experiance where I got a warn for RDM, which I do not believe would be very valid. I will not mention the staff in question who did that, but I did talk to one admin on why it is like that. He did also mention that said staff that warned me has done that...a lot. Please do something about this, because it doesn't look like a good idea.

usually no but theres when other staff are afk or not doing reports then they can, when i was staff i sometimes did mine but cause i don't really care about being rdmed it weren't really a problem for me. As for other staff i can see and have seen how this is a problem as they are usually biast towards themselves.

A staff member is allowed to handle his own report as long as he/she does so properly, that is explaining to the person what rule they broke and why they are being warned. If you feel like the person handling the report didn't do it properly you can report them on the forums, also if you don't wish to publicly shame him you can try and talk to him on discord or steam. If he doesn't respond on either of those platforms either he probably deserves to be reported on the forums.

We advise that staff shouldn't handle their own reports, especially when others are available and if the situation is complicated. But at the end of the day, they are allowed to. It's needed if they are the only staff online and we trust our staff to use their powers effectively and fairly. If you do not think a staff member is doing so, then you can report them and they will be dealt with.

As for the warning if you think it's either invalid or harsh then you can appeal it here on the forums and another staff member will review the situation. If you want to to do so, then use this template:

Name - What is your in-game name?
STEAM-ID - What is your STEAM-ID?
Staff Members Name - Who warned you?
Punishment Reason - What was the reason of the punishment(s)?
Server - Which server did this occur on?
Story/Situation - What happened?
Extra Information - Anything you would find relevant to your punishments(s)?

this almost never happens. the typical (though not 'official') attitude is punish first and then only give additional info if pushed on it. its like people getting permabanned for the smallest of things and expecting them to make a forum post to lower it to something sensible.

I can assure you that this is not the case for most of our staff members.

Staff are advised to leave their reports to other staff members online to minimise reports realting to bias and/or abuse. Occasionally a staff member may be alone on the server meaning they have to handle their own reports and they have the right to do so. They should be able to look at the situation and punish the player based on the information they have. Since they are invovled in the situation, they should know exactly what happaned and be able to decide whether a rule was broken easily. Any staff members that can't do this quite simply shouldn't be staff in the first place.

JimJams post above also explains this very well.
