[Surf] Maps Guide - How to download the maps! 7 years 8 months ago #512614

So you've tried to load into Zarp's Surf Server? But it's saying that that the map you're trying to load into is missing? Well use this guide to help you get the maps you need.

First off you need to get the maps downloaded link which can be found Here! Once you click on one of the downloads you should see this on the bottom of your browser! (This one is for google)

Once it has finished downloading through your browser you must find the folder it has been downloaded in for me it saves to my desktop.

After that you must Right Click on The Icon -> Click "Extract Here"

After that a download box should appear extracting it to wherever you extracted it from. (This could be from a folder or your desktop.)

Then you should see a .bsp icon for wherever you extracted it.

Next you need to find your Program Files / Program Files (x86) This can be located in your Windows (C:)

Once you are there you must follow these steps to where you should go.

If you have Program Files (x86) then follow these steps!
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps

If you have just Program Files follow these steps
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps

Once you are in this folder just drag the .bsp file into there and you should be set.

If you would like to fast download all of these maps then just follow these steps!
You should be able to use wget to acomplish this. gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm
And then use it as described here stackoverflow.com/questions/23446635/how...ories-as-they-appear

Don't have WinRar / Changed Directory?

For the step about extracting, you will have to get winrar, from here
Many users do not save Steam / Steam games onto their main C:\ drive (because if you understand SSDs and HDDs and are not loaded as all heck - as in willing to spend up of £600 on a large SSD - you would have a SSD as your main boot disk (usually 128 or 250GB), and a secondary HDD (usually about 1TB+) on which to save files and games, since this greatly increases the speed of a PC), and save it to a separate drive / file. The directory for the maps files would be ...\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps , however the root directory is wherever it is saved to. You can find where your games save to by, in the top left of your Steam menu, going to Steam > Settings > Downloads and checking which files are there. If there are multiple files, you can check which one you have Garry's Mod saved to, and if there is only one, you can save it there. The default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps however.

Credit to - EMP, Clarky TheXnator for some of these steps as well!
Gody

Feel free to add any of these if you have any issues at all thanks!

A few of these steps would not be possible for someone who does not use WinRAR.
Also, many users (myself included) do not save Steam / Steam games onto their main C:\ drive (because if you understand SSDs and HDDs and are not loaded as all heck - as in willing to spend up of £600 on a large SSD - you would have a SSD as your main boot disk (usually 128 or 250GB), and a secondary HDD (usually about 1TB+) on which to save files and games, since this greatly increases the speed of a PC), and save it to a separate drive / file. Another note for you: when copying links that EMP gives you on the forums, don't just highlight it and copy it, right click it and press copy link address for two reasons: a) it actually copies it as a link b) it actually copies the full link and not the shortened version, since forums automatically shortens full URLs
