It's honestly so messed up when stuff disappear after being dropped especially when the item is expesnive so I feel bad for you. ;c

I heard somewhere that dropping is faster than holstering, not sure if that is true

Yes, for items that take time to drop/holster but with small items like the scan master you can holster it without waiting.
