Note that this thread isn't meant to promote failure of the idea in gems, just large scale farming of it.
So, a lot of people have been questioning how many gems other people may have, and personally, I've only had a maximum of about 50,000 at the most. However, I saw some people claiming they had over 1,000,000 gems in their inventory, and I'm going to prove how wrong they may be (or how much they need to go outside).
Money value
So, 1,000,000 gems would be made from rubies (hopefully), and rubies make 80 gems each...
1,000,000/80 = 12500 rubies.
Each of these rubies can be sold for 870 each...
12500 x 870 = $10,875,000.
So, from just mining to get the rubies and sell them immediately, you could make $10,875,000 from selling the raw ruby. However, many people convert them into gems first, and then sell them for a higher cash value. Let's assume that someone is selling gems for a reasonable price of $50/gem.
1,000,000 x 50 = $50,000,000.
So, from selling all of those gems, you would be able to make back $50,000,000 if you sold each and every one back. However, time is still something to consider.
Time
Let's think about this in terms that you are Meski, and have basically unlimited inventory space. Each gem takes about 4.5 seconds to mine.
12500 x 4.5 = 56250 seconds. While this may seem like a low number, here's the number put into perspective.
56250/60 seconds a minute = 937.5 minutes.
937.5/60 minutes an hour = 15.625 hours.
15.625/24 hours a day = 0.65104166666 days.
So, from mining alone, you'd have to take 15.625 hours (~0,651 days) to mine every single gem one by one to convert them into gems. But, what could you do other than gems and make money?
-With a fully upgraded set of printers, excluding rare ones, and non boosted, you could make back around $16,075,000
-Using a hand that can do this every five seconds, you could slap EMP or Chuteuk in the face about 11250 times
-Assuming the average sit takes three minutes, you could do 312 F1s
So, is it really worth it?
