Is Zarp Unwelcoming to Newer Players? (Balancing) 5 years 1 week ago #1095263

Hey,

I've been away a long time from the server (since a few months after the release of Uranium, and m9k weapons), and I had some curiosities regarding the current state of balancing and overall fairness of new items and features. Forgive me if it sounds too noobish for you.

So, I'll just start of by asking: Is it really considered a balanced system in terms of power for new-er players? I do know that theres always been a power difference based on how long you have played, of course, but I feel that the gap has gotten a bit too large. As an example, starting out, I try to become a drug dealer, print and do whatnot. Not long after, my area is scanned by an officer and three fading doors plus the normal world door are broken down in less than 6 seconds, and I am 2-3 hit by a machine gun-- not to the head. This isn't exactly where my confusion starts (however, I feel thats too fast to be breaking through an entire base), but it starts when theres 1hko weapons (this one weapon that literally vaporizes me with no chance of survival) and when I am unable to deal any damage. Another example: I get raided again, I have a better base, 3 people including myself defending it and one officer raiding. We all open fire, aiming for the head, and that officer is just able to stand there, not only taking all the hits, but picking off each and every one of us, taking their time. This seems a bit overpowered. Of course, Civil Protection has to be strong, but I think its more of an issue with weapons and upgrades-- New players have literally no chance of survival. Its not just against CP too- if a raider has these weapons and upgrades, they're unstoppable as well.

This is the general nature of DRP, however, in my opinion, I feel like it is too one-sided. A friend of mine mentioned that (paraphrasing) "Perhaps because of their higher population after we left, they did not want to keep welcoming new players, and as a result, they just kept adding more and more op stuff". This didn't really make too much sense to me because more players obviously meant more income *to a degree. Another theory that he had was that once the M9K weapons were released, a thought went through thinking that "since we have these weapons, why not add grenade launchers... rpgs...nuclear weapons... and so on?"

Having said that, I do understand that at a certain point, more experienced and advanced players just get bored with nothing new or crazy strong, but I do not believe (again, my opinion only-- to each their own) that this is the right way of doing it.

Because of these weapons and upgrades, I've noticed it to be incredibly, if not impossible to keep playing. I love the idea of upgrades and such because it gives me something to work towards, however, the imbalance is just too great. When I become a hitman, I should be able to kill another player, not have them take out some gun that vaporizes me or can 1 hit me without a headshot, or have unloaded an entire clip on another person's head and it not even scratch.

With that said, I want to know your opinions and what you feel about this topic. I know I'll get comments saying things like "Then just don't play." or "Get good, get a large team so you can have a chance." or "You just suck". Which is fair, but when there is such a large gap, it really does feel like Zarp is no longer accepting new players, and is rather trying to push people away from joining. I'll still try to continue playing, but I can definitely say it is not very enjoyable anymore.

people have spent so much money on boosters for the stuff that they have that if they actually removed the op shit then those people would all leave so there really isn't anything much of a "fix" to this

Thats quite unfortunate indeed. So correct me if im wrong, but the server is essentially tanking itself with as much as it can get away with before inevitably taking itself down. Do a good amount of others feel the same way about this topic, or is it just a few?

I also found that regardless, I probably won't be rejoining-- let's say I do get some op weapons or whatnot by grinding or by chance-- what is there really to do? There are others with many alts just farming away while they play normally or are doing other things, so doing the grind myself isn't exactly worth it, which also just tanks the economy beyond belief. In addition, Once I would have gotten to one of the top percentiles in terms of items or money, then the only thing left to do is either beat all of the lower-ranking players into submission, or risk losing x amount of months worth of equipment from dying from another players raid or my own raids. It was a shame too, because this server has great rules, staff, concepts, items (excluding newer weapons), and few servers offer similar features. No hard feelings towards the server, just light disappointment.
