My opinion on this is a very clear answer. They shouldn't be removed but rules should be changed. You could allow explosives in the elevator or even the elevator shaft as this would allow the people to raid the base while having the base still 'protectable'
This would allow them to continue to t-gun the lee but as there wouldn't be any props blocking them from getting out they ca rush in.
