Overhall mining in general, as you step up each "grade" of ore it becomes more and more difficult to mine (more expensive items are required to mine them efficiently (not something that can be obtained in an hour))
I.e a drill that needs constant maintenance such as cooling and repairing to reward not being afk

Remove gems all together and re purpose rubies to have a different use.

Make mining a long-term investment instead of something anyone can do.
