You're example is fine. But to show more of a point you could remove the hate and add just because he wanted to or something along the lines of that. But as I say you're example is fine as it is.
This also means that you cannot remember anything example from the basics like what gang you are in.
It is not nessacery to have proof. If a story seems believable or one of the players changes there story then stuff along the lines of that would be enough proof.
