Explain how you feel that your time as a moderator will contribute to you becoming an admin.
During my time as a Moderator I've learned a lot. I have a much better understanding of the rules, I've learned how to handle situations and come to an accurate decision and I feel I've reached a point where I have enough knowledge and confidence to go into any F1 situation and make the right decision for everyone involved.
Explain a situation as a moderator you encountered that was an obstacle you had to work around (EG: defiant user).
Handling difficult situations is a daily task as a staff member on SSRP. One incident that sticks out to me was when I logged on to the server and instantly saw everyone in spawn being shot by one person, this person actually managed to kill me 3 times before I could actually get sat down and ready to play. I took him aside and asked what was going on, he shouted a few things and disconnected. I took a note of his Steam ID but he logged back in moments later anyway and continued killing. I seem to remember there was roughly 27 RDMs. No admins on to ban him so I made the decision to take him to a roof and freeze him until I could contact and admin through steam to come and help. This situation would have been handled so much better if I had been admin at the time with the ability to ban him myself.
If you had to write a facebook post to train a moderator in between 200-300 words, what would you say to give them the full grasp?
Congratulations on becoming a Zarp Moderator!
Here's a quick, simple guide on what you need to know to be successful in your new role.
Menus: As staff you now have access to some new menus.
F1 menu - By pressing the F1 key you are taken to a screen which shows all of the current F1s created by users. They will be listed in the order they were created so top of the list must be handled first as that user created his F1 first. You will also have a warnings tab to show recent warnings given on the server and a tab which takes you to the logs. The logs can be navigated either by scrolling through them or using the search bar in the top right corner to search for logs involving a specific user.
Warnings - By pressing the F6 button you can access a screen which will allow you to view the warning history of any player. At the top left you have an option to scroll through the players on the server at that time or you can search for a specific Steam ID. At the top right, you can search through a specific users warning list for all warnings containing a specific word such as "RDM" or "NLR".
Handling an F1:
Your main duty as a Zarp Moderator is to handle F1s. These are reports users have made about a problem they are having which could include anything from rule breaks such as RDM, NLR, RP House raid... to a user being stuck in a prop or simply needing some questions about the server answered. It's your job as a Moderator to handle each F1 carefully and professionally ensuring you come to an accurate conclusion through all of the evidence provided to you.
F1s are simple, listen to all of the evidence given by the users involved, compare their stories with information from the logs, ask any questions you feel are relevant and finally piece all of the parts together to make a final decision.
Commands: Bellow are the commands you will have access to and a quick guide on how to use each to aid you in your new role.
/tp [SteamID/Name] - This is the Teleport command which when used on its own will teleport you to the location your aiming at. When used with details of a user it will teleport them to the location you're aiming at.
/goto [SteamID/Name] - This is used to take you to the user with the details you've used.
/bring [SteamID/Name] - This command is used to bring a player to you although there is an issue with the command, once used you cannot send the player back to their original position this is why we recommend you use /tp instead. There is one situation where this command can be used, when a user is dead using /bring will force them back to life and bring them to you where as the /tp command simply won't work if they're dead.
/back [SteamID/Name] - The /back command is used to send a user back to their original location when you've finished with them. If used without the details of a specific user it will send you back to your original position.
/backspawn [SteamID/Name] - Used to send either yourself or a specific user to the spawn area.
/warn [SteamID/Name] [Reason] - Once you have come to the conclusion that someone has broke a rule you can give them a warning. This is done by using the command /warn with the users details followed by the reason you have given the warning. Once a player reaches 3 warnings they are kicked from the server, if they return and receive a 4th warning they will be banned by the console for 1 hour.
/unwarn [SteamID/Name] - If you have given a warning accidentally or you're later provided with evidence that a decision you made was incorrect you can remove the warning you gave. Usually most warnings are appealed through the forum but some users will reach out to you personally with the evidence that the warning was incorrect.
/freeze [SteamID/Name] [Time-Seconds] - If you feel like a user needs to stop what they're doing so you can talk to them or they try to run from you, you have the ability to freeze that user. Freezing a user means they cannot move at all, they also cannot be killed, this makes it easy to talk to them. You can temporarily freeze them by adding a time such as /freeze STEAM:12345 60, this will freeze a user for 60seconds. If you decide to not add a time the user will be frozen permanently until you or another member of staff unfreezes them.
/unfreeze [SteamID/Name] - Once you have a frozen a user you can then unfreeze them so they can continue playing.
/slay [SteamID/Name] [Normal/Silent/Rocket/Explosion] - This command is very rarely used however it is an ability you will have as a staff member. Simply put, it kills a user in the way of your choice.
/kick [SteamID] - This is used to remove a user from the server, they will not receive a ban so they can return straight away. This can be useful for times such as when a user refuses to remove props or sell doors and there are no admins available.
All of these commands can be accessed by holding the tab button on your keyboard, clicking on a specific users name and then choosing the command you wish to use from the list of available abilities provided.
Advice:
Listen - When you enter any situation just listen. Listen to every side of the story, listen to all of the evidence given to you, listen to everything that's said and you'll be able to put together a bigger picture of what actually happened.
Ask - If you don't know, ask. You will come across situations you're not completely confident about, so whether it's to check a rule, ask for help or simple get some advice, go to check, press the @ key and ask your question. Staff are always happy to help each other out.
Use Common Sense - Think about what has been said to you, what evidence you've been given, what the logs say in relation to that evidence and use common sense to rule out possibilities. Example: User1 claims User2 broke NLR, you see in the logs that User2 did die twice very quickly. (This is where you would ask what district it was in) if User1 tells you it was at the PD yet the deaths are only a few seconds apart, common sense says that a user cannot get to the pd district from spawn in that amount of time and User1 isn't telling you the truth.
Explain how you would handle the following situation: Player x appeals their ban in great detail, apology and effort. You check the ban list and find that you banned them permanently for propspam, and that this is their first ban. How would your response to the appeal be?
To start with if I had given the ban I would not be handling the appeal. However if a player makes a great deal of effort in their appeal, admitting their wrongdoing and apologising for it, I would definitely take that into consideration along with the fact they have never done it before. Breaking a rule always deserves some sort of punishment so in this situation I'd agree to a greatly reduced ban, possibly a removal of the ban.
Why I should be reinstated as Admin.
I was an Admin for 1 month 3 weeks and before that I was moderator for 5 weeks and I absolutely loved it, I loved going into every F1 like a detective trying to gain all the evidence and solve the problems. I believe I was a good Admin and the few mistakes I made can be put in the past and moved on from.
In all of that time as a staff member I have had 1 demote request against me which was a case of someone not fully understanding the rules and it being denied. I've had 2 warnings I've given appealed, both denied. I feel that after so long as a staff member this is a decent record to have and shows that I make an effort to fully understand each situation, gather every piece of evidence and explain clearly to players why they're being warned or banned to ensure the issue is resolved without the need for the forum.
Why I was demoted:
These are the reasons I was given for my demotion and my own comments on each.
#1 Abusing powers moving props while cloaked and no clipping: I had a prop which looked like a robot, I decided to no clip and cloak to move the prop, I have no explanation for this, it was a silly thing to do and an abuse of my powers.
#2 Abusing powers by random tp'ing During last weeks meeting I tp'ed a couple of staff members into some water, again I have no explanation it was just a silly thing to do.
#3 Breaking a rule on another account I was playing on another account when someone came to me and started preaching about god, I told them "leave in 5 seconds or die", I mistakenly forgot to type /me when I done this meaning that when I killed the player it was in fact RDM.
#4 Incorrect bans This was 2 bans I gave, both a while ago now.
Ban 1- It was the day after the Gauss rifle was released and I had just got one, I was in the admin area trying it out. A moderator decided to hold a sit in the same admin area, one person in the sit was a police officer who arrested me and made me lose my Gauss rifle. I banned this player for 2 weeks. Instantly I knew I shouldn't have and contacted Para telling him what I'd done, he explained to me how to unban the player and explained that I can never use my emotions to give bans. The ban lasted roughly 30mins - 1hour before it was removed. I regretted giving the ban instantly and knew I had done wrong, I showed this by contacting someone higher up and admitting it straight away.
Ban2- A player was constantly breaking rules, mass rdm, nlr, throwing grenades around, putting up offensive textscreens and so on. I froze the player and told him he was going to be banned explaining why. He replied saying "ban me for a year idc u stupid ni**er c*nt ".. so I accepted his request and banned him for 1 year. A week later I removed the ban myself as I felt he'd had enough time to think about what he'd done.
