Hello Paddy, as Chute's said the items should return to your inventory if it indeed was a server crash, if this has happened to you several times over the past few days and you still haven't received the items in your inventory it was most likely a client side issue. Since there is no proof we can't really do anything on our side, but it most likely was a client side issue.
