There is a thing called Shadowplay that you perhaps have heard of. That software records for you and if there is footage that you will need to use you press ALT + F10 (for me). Then it saves the latest 20 minutes you have played (customizable).
I haven't seen it, to be honest I've never needed anything like that but I'll definitely have a look if means this can't happen again... hopefully it's as simple as you make out lol
