People who does damage themselves are just doing bad. Most of times really bad. Cutting themselves isn't a "funny thing" and they don't do it to get anything (not like that jerk). They deserve respect because they're doing bad, they're not being jerks trolling and saying they're gonna cut themselves because it's funny. Cutting itself isn't funny, so yeah those people who just are doing so bad that they even harm themselves deserve respect. Not for harming themselves but for doing bad.
