Well, here's my opinion on the matter.

It's a great idea Geoffery, but sadly, throughout our lives we realize one person can ruin a situation for everyone. In this case, people start voting for their friends, and not people who really deserve it. The way it works now, is just fine, we get people who deserve it, and are good at what they do. If there was another suggested version of this that eliminates the friend voting aspect, i'd be all over this idea, but for now, I cannot see it ever being implemented.
