The private channels is better and we should keep them. Honestly i don't see a reason to remove them, as everybody is able to make a private channel. First of all, it's relaxing to go into a private channel, and speak with the ones you like best.
You can always poke someone if you need them for anything. The private channels are working great, and they shouldn't be removed.
