Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil
1 cup of buttermilk
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons of red food coloring
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of white vinegar
Cream cheese frosting (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray or butter and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined. Do not overmix the batter, as it can result in a tough cake.
Divide the batter equally between the two prepared cake pans.
Bake the cakes for approximately 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
Once the cakes have cooled, you can frost them with cream cheese frosting or your desired frosting.
Your delicious red velvet cake is now ready to serve!
