I've also always felt that if players were really complaining, then this change would be positive. Clearly it was a major change for a minor cause. And so nothing good has come of that. Everyone that can go fast had to learn at some point, there's Bhop servers for reasons. Very rarely saw people on Deathrun not being able to keep up aside from a newbie that leaves after 1 round anyway. And a lot of map designers have kept in mind being able to Bhop, which makes the maps now frustrating to complete because it's almost stopping you using parts of the maps as intended. It's got rid of that accomplishment of getting past a few traps in a row and that fun little rush. You just get past 1 trap, start again, build some speed (to the permitted amount of velocity), and hope for the best now. Some traps are impossible to cross without being able to go faster than we are allowed to now.
