It's not a slur at all, I'm just saying what I think happened here, whether or not it was the right thing to have happened - I think when you have people throwing around insults at one another and often doing so in a discriminatory manner (ie. people using "gay" as an insult - it's not a slur, but when used in an insulting manner, is discriminatory), it can be easy to assume that something was being said in an insulting context. Bear in mind that tone doesn't come across in text, and some people have a harder time reading tone than others when they don't have vocal cues.
